Tarantula

-Tarantulas are the largest spiders in the world ... about 5 inches long
-They are often hairy and have eight legs, including four pairs
-Tarantulas have four appendages near their mouth called chelicerae and pedipalps ... the chelicerae have fangs and venom, while the pedipalps are claws and feelers that help them feed.
-Not uncommon in southern Arizona ... if you see one, just leave it alone!
-Tarantulas are mostly nocturnal and stay close to their burrows for most of the year
-A female tarantula can live for 20–25 years, while a male tarantula only lives for about 7–8 years
-All tarantulas can produce silk, which they use to line their burrows
-Tarantulas primarily eat insects like beetles, grasshoppers, other small spiders, and arthropods ... they will sometimes eat small lizards
