Javelina Mum & Bairn

- Javelina (hav-ah-lee-nah) are medium-sized animals that look like wild boars
- Also known as collared peccaries, skunk pigs, or musk hogs
- Average adult is about 18 inches tall and weighs between 35 to 45 pounds
- Javelinas eat almost anything, including snakes and young deer
- If confronted, they might bark, charge and bite, but what is interpreted as charging is often just the critters trying to get a better look at you

- If you come across a javelina, you can try making loud noises or spraying them with a garden hose from a safe distance
- You should never feed javelina, and take care to ensure that they can't access pet food or bird seed
