Tailless Whip Scorpion

- The Tailless Whip Scorpion (Paraphrynus Carolynae) is a harmless, non-venomous arachnid found in southern Arizona, particularly in the Upland foothills, often spotted in rock crevices, caves, and sometimes homes
- Despite their intimidating, flat appearance, they have no venom, do not spin webs, and flee rather than bite, acting as beneficial nocturnal predators
- They have flat, brownish-black bodies with large, spiny, hook-like pedipalps for catching prey, and lack a tail or stingers
- The front pair of legs is extremely long and thin, acting as sensory feelers (similar to antennae) to navigate and find food
- The body is typically about 1/2 to 3/4 inches long, though their legs span a much wider area
- They are active at night and hide in dark, dry spots during the day
